CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Dec.11, 2025) – Charlotte County Community Services is calling for public nominations of environmentally sensitive lands to be considered for acquisition using the remaining funds from the 2006 Conservation Charlotte referendum.
Approved by voters in 2006, the Conservation Charlotte program has protected critical wetlands, wildlife habitat, and water-resource lands for nearly two decades. A 2006 county survey showed strong public support for land acquisition as a community priority. Remaining funds now present another opportunity to preserve high-value natural areas before the program sunsets.
Anyone can nominate a property. You do not need to own the land. What matters is the ecological value and community benefit.
Lands will be evaluated on criteria including rarity, habitat quality, water resources, connectedness to existing preserves, and long-term manageability.
Nomination forms can be found at www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov/conservationcharlotte.
