Hurricane Ian caused severe shoreline erosion at Manasota Key, Don Pedro, and Stump Pass, displacing hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of sand. The dune system and seawalls were heavily damaged, exposing properties to storm risks. Additional damage affected beach fill, mangrove roots, riprap, pavilions, sidewalks, boat ramps, and docks, many of which need repair or replacement.

The Cultural Center Replacement project was approved to move forward with masterplanning and programming by the Board of County Commissioners on March 12th 2024 following a series of public input activities and final presentation. The board granted $750,000 to proceed with advertising for a consultant. Additionally the direction was given to move forward with demolition of the existing facility scheduled for FY26. The full design and permitting phase is scheduled for funding in FY27 with construction funding in FY28.Cochran Boulevard Reclaim Extension
