CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 27, 2024) – As we recover from Hurricane Helene, Emergency Management encourages you to practice safe generator use to protect you and your family. The primary hazards to avoid when using a generator are carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from the toxic engine exhaust, electric shock or electrocution, and fire. Follow the directions supplied with the generator.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns batteries in hybrid and electric vehicles are highly corrosive and should not be exposed to standing water. Flooded vehicles lead to high-voltage shock hazards, which could lead to a fire.
County Urges Residents to Stay Off All Roads

Due the widespread road flooding caused by storm surge from Hurricane Helene, Charlotte County urges everyone to stay off roads until further notice. There is no guarantee any road on the way to or from any location in the county will not have some level of flooding or dangerous debris.
Residential Curbside Service Resumes on Friday

Residential curbside collection of garbage, recyclables, and yard trimmings will resume on Friday, Sept. 27. Collection will be one day later, with Thursday customers serviced on Friday and Friday customers will be serviced on Saturday.

Charlotte County offices and facilities and the Charlotte County Tax Collector offices will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27 due to Hurricane Helene. Charlotte County mini-transfer facilities and the landfill will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26.
