CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (March 28, 2025) — Beginning with the April 8, 2025 County Commission meeting in the Charlotte County Administration Center, the county will be implementing enhanced security procedures.
All persons and property entering Room 119 (commission chamber) will be subject to search. Metal detectors will be installed at two entrances to Room 119. Security staff and sheriff’s deputies will be deployed to conduct screenings of people and their belongings. Hand-held metal detectors will also be employed to address unresolved walk-through metal detector alarms.
Pat downs and visual inspections may be employed by Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies to resolve walkthrough or hand-held metal detector alarms.
No weapons, firearms, flammables, knives, sharp objects, pepper spray or mace will be allowed into Room 119.
Anyone leaving Room 119 during a commission meeting, must go through the metal detector again before re-entering.
Members of the public have the right to refuse to be screened or to have their hand-carried belongings inspected or to withdraw permission to be screened after it has begun — unless an obvious threat has been identified. Persons exercising these rights to refuse screening will not be allowed into Room 119.
If you have business before the commission or are planning to provide public input, please time your arrival accordingly due to the potential delays in entering Room 119.
