CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (March 28, 2025) – Charlotte County Natural Resources staff has installed and will continue to install a fence with screening along the historic dune line that was impacted on Englewood Beach in order to protect nesting female sea turtles and emerging sea turtle hatchlings from entering the parking lot and road.
Artificial light source from vehicle headlights and development cause nesting female sea turtles and emerging hatchlings to disorient and go towards land instead of the gulf. In addition, the screen will help capture blowing sand and assist in reforming the lost dune system.
Charlotte County staff ask beach patrons to be respectful of the protected nesting sea turtles and dune restoration and not to alter or remove the protective screening.
