CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (March 28, 2025) – As Floridians continue rebuilding after Hurricanes Milton, Helene, and Debby, FEMA mitigation specialists will be available in-person to provide free advice on how to strengthen homes against future storms.
Homeowners and contractors can visit FEMA specialists through April 5 at Home Depot, 12621 McCall Road, Port Charlotte, FL 33981. Specialists will be available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
FEMA experts will answer questions and provide free home improvement tips and proven methods to help lessen damage from future disasters. The guidance is tailored for both do-it-yourself projects and general contractors. An insurance specialist will also be present to address questions regarding the National Flood Insurance Program.
In addition, Disaster Survivor Assistance teams will be on-site to provide updates on FEMA applications and answer questions about disaster recovery assistance.
Mitigation efforts focus on reducing loss of life and property damage by using construction and remodeling best practices to lessen the impact of future disasters.
