Charlotte County has launched an online storm debris zone progress map to update residents on cleanup efforts after Hurricane Milton. The map can be found online at www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov/debrisprogress.

Recovery efforts are underway in response to Hurricane Milton in Charlotte County. Clearing and removing storm debris is a major part of the recovery effort. Charlotte County Public Works asks for residents’ cooperation to properly separate storm debris by category and adhere to the collection guidelines.
Disaster Unemployment Assistance

Charlotte County businesses and residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Milton and are not eligible for regular state or federal Reemployment Assistance benefits can apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).
Portions of Kevitt Boulevard Closed for Disaster Debris Management Site

Kevitt Boulevard between N. Access Road and Grouse Avenue in Port Charlotte will be closed to public traffic beginning Oct. 15. The area will be used as a disaster debris management site. Please expect heavy traffic as debris-hauling trucks come and go from the area.

Permitting Guidelines for Storm Damage Repairs

While recovery efforts are underway following Hurricane Milton, the Charlotte County Community Development Department reminds residents that permits are required for most storm damage repairs in accordance with Section 105.1 of the Florida Building Code. Storm-related repairs are not exempt from permitting requirements.
Unlicensed Contracting During an Emergency is a Felony

A State of Emergency was declared by Gov. Ron DeSantis on Oct. 5, 2024, as a result of Hurricane Milton. Any person who does work without the correct licensure during a state of emergency may be charged with a felony.
Oxygen-Dependent Residents Should Call Vendor for Refills

Residents who rely on oxygen tanks are urged to contact their regular vendor directly for refills before their supply runs low. It is important to monitor oxygen levels regularly and use the contact information on the tanks or equipment to promptly reach out to the vendor.
